German database of cleaned caves added

Aug 20, 2026

The Clean Up The Dark database has received a new regional update, with data contributed by the German Verband der deutschen Höhlen- und Karstforscher (VDHK). The data documents the scale and geographic distribution of where clean-up efforts have taken place, with cave locations being approximate. The German contribution is another valuable step in building a broader picture of underground pollution across Europe and the efforts being made to address it.

If you have data on cleaned or impacted caves in your region, we encourage you to contribute it. Share it with the Clean Up The Dark project and help us continue building a clearer picture of underground pollution and the actions being taken to protect our caves.
