In 2024, the ECPC marked the first World Cleanup Day with a landmark report on cave and karst cleaning across Europe. A year later, that effort continues to grow. across Europe. Cavers and volunteers have cleared many caves of waste and restored fragile underground ecosystems.
Yet, much remains to be done. Many caves still suffer from decades of pollution and neglect. Each hidden dump site is a threat to nature, water, and heritage.
This year, as we celebrate World Cleanup Day on September 20th, ECPC calls on all cavers and clubs to take part. The real power lies in sharing our data – every cleanup report, photo, and record helps build awareness, guide protection efforts, and inspire action across Europe.
